One of the cleanest lakes in Europe, a genuine "Venice of the Alps" old town, and the launch site that made French paragliding famous — this trip is a mountain-lake weekend and an adrenaline day rolled into one long drive.
Lac d'Annecy is regularly cited as one of the purest lakes in Europe — glacial-fed, alpine-ringed, genuinely turquoise. The old town's canals, covered arcades and the Palais de l'Isle (a 12th-century château sitting mid-canal) earn the "Venice of the Alps" tag honestly. But the lake is only half the reason to drive 550 km: Col de la Forclaz, the ridge above the lake's south end, is one of the most famous paragliding takeoff sites on Earth — an easy, reliable thermal site that made this valley France's paragliding capital. Budget one full day for the water and old town, one for the mountain and the flight.
Meudon-la-Forêt → Annecy is ~550–560 km via the A6/A40 ("Autoroute du Soleil"), roughly 5h15 of driving (Mappy/distanceenvoiture.fr put it at 543–559 km depending on exact routing). That's well beyond the Model Y Premium's realistic ~330–370 km range, so plan on one Supercharger stop each way — pick one roughly at the midpoint (e.g. around Mâcon/Beaune on the A6) and top up again if needed. On arrival, there's a real Tesla Supercharger right in the Annecy area: Seynod, Avenue d'Aix-les-Bains, 74600 Seynod ("La Galerie" site — 16 stalls, up to 250 kW, 24/7), a few minutes from the lake and old town, so a final top-up before the long drive home is easy.
Long drive — consider leaving Friday evening or very early Saturday. Once in Annecy, walk the medieval old town: the canals of the Thiou river, the covered arcaded streets, and the Palais de l'Isle, a 12th-century fortified building sitting on its own island in the canal — one of the most photographed buildings in France. Then head to Plage d'Albigny in Annecy-le-Vieux, the largest free beach on the lake (~400m of sand and grass, snacks and free toilets on site, lifeguarded July–August 11h–19h) — the beach itself is free, only parking is paid.
Drive up to Col de la Forclaz above Talloires — the takeoff site that made this valley France's paragliding capital, with pilots flying here since the early 1990s. Multiple established operators launch from the same spot (Parapente Annecy, Takamaka, K2 Outdoor, Aéroslide, FBI Parapente). Real tandem prices cluster tightly across operators: entry-level "discovery" flights from €80–95, a mid-length "panoramic"/"sensation" flight around €100–115, and longer 30–45 min thermal/"prestige" flights at €125–160. Photos/video of your flight are a separate add-on, typically ~€30. Book ahead in summer — this is one of the busiest tandem sites in Europe.
Morning bike ride on the Voie Verte du lac d'Annecy — a genuinely flat, paved former railway line running ~33 km along the lake's east shore between Annecy and Val de Chaise (Marlens), with barely 20m of cumulative elevation gain on the greenway itself. It passes through Sevrier, Saint-Jorioz, Duingt, Talloires and Menthon-Saint-Bernard, with lake views most of the way — a much easier ride than the full ~40 km tour-du-lac loop, which adds real climbing on the western side. Load the bike (front wheel off) and start the long drive home, with a Supercharger stop en route.
Bike travels inside the car (front wheel off) per the Car Camping & Bike Guide — no range penalty on the long drive down. The Voie Verte is the payoff: a flat, well-maintained, hugely popular lakeside path that needs no technical skill, making it a genuinely relaxing counterpart to the adrenaline of the paragliding day.
